Why Local Businesses Need SEO

A majority of consumers don’t scroll past the first page of search results on Google or their search engine of choice. This is important because a page that ranks low in terms of search engine optimization (SEO) will be less visible than one that ranks highly.

This is especially relevant for local businesses, as the vast majority of consumers looking for a product or service don’t look beyond Google’s “local pack”, the first group of search results shown on the map when you search for a specific type of business.

Additionally, when a consumer needs to find a business that meets their needs while they’re on the go, they search on a mobile device. As long as their location services are turned on, that search will automatically have a local intent, meaning that the results will be local whether the search specifies a specific area or not.

This means that SEO is very important for a local business to become visible to potential customers, for two reasons. First, the majority of all searches are local searches, and most people who search for businesses don’t scroll past the first few results.

When a local business takes the time to optimize their content for their target keywords (a basic SEO strategy), they see results almost immediately. When ranking on search engine results pages (SERPs) improves, they get more calls, more walk-in traffic, and more conversions.

If you own a local business, you need SEO services to make sure you stand out in the crowd that is the competitive local business landscape. Once your business becomes more visible, you’ll start to reap the rewards in the form of qualified leads and sales.
