Founded in 1998, iCrossing is a digital marketing agency owned by Hearst, one of the largest entertainment, media and content companies in the world. With 17 office locations, the firm has 900 employees across the world, including locations in cities such as New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Scottsdale, Dallas, Chicago, London, Munich, Seoul and Beijing.
The company was established as a search engine marketing agency by Jeffrey Herzog in Scottsdale, Arizona. He founded the company with the belief that “search will change the advertising landscape.” By 2001, the agency had 60 employees and introduced its first proprietary analytics tool known as Interest2Action. In 2006, iCrossing expanded to the mobile search field and acquired NewGate Internet.
In 2008, iCrossing grew due to acquisitions of the United Kingdom’s search marketing firm Spannerworks, web development firm Proxicam, German interactive marketing company 3GNet, and Sharp Analytics. In 2008, Don Scales took over as chief executive officer of the agency, and Jeffrey Herzog became a member of the board of directors. During this time, iCrossing had grown to more than 550 employees and provided services to 40 Fortune 500 clients.
The Hearst Corporation acquired iCrossing in 2010. Following the acquisition, iCrossing founded Live Media Studio, which is a unit focused on the creation and distribution of social content in real time.
iCrossing acquired two companies, Wallaby Group and Red Aril, which enabled the agency to expand to new locations in Chile, Peru, Mexico, Spain and Argentina. With the acquisition of Red Aril, iCrossing had a data management platform, or DMP, and a trading desk, or DSP.
Since its founding, iCrossing has grown to offer a wide range of services, including brand strategy, experience design, data analytics and content marketing. The company also focuses on creating brand awareness through advertising campaigns, digital media planning and buying, social media marketing and search engine optimization.
The agency was named an Elite Agency in the 2015 Digital Census by The Drum. Senior Associate Director of Search Media, Susan Scholler, was awarded a Google Search Excellence award in 2015. In 2016, the agency combined its social media marketing, search marketing and performance media marketing into a department called Media Services.
