5 Tools Everyone in the SEO Industry Should Be Using

“Search engine optimization (SEO) professionals know the importance of using tools. From choosing target keywords and analyzing backlinks to optimizing page speed and more, the right tools streamline the otherwise difficult task of optimizing a site for higher search rankings.

#1) Google PageSpeed Insights

The speed at which your website loads affect more than just its user experience (UX); it also affects its ability to rank in the search results. In 2010, Google confirmed the use of page speed as a ranking signal for desktop searches, meaning fast-loading pages receive ranking priority over their slow-loading counterparts. Earlier this year, the Mountain View company said it will soon use page speed as a ranking signal for mobile searches as well. To ensure your site is ready for this update, use the PageSpeed Insights tool. It allows you to analyze your site’s speed for both desktop and mobile devices.

#2) Yoast SEO

If your website is powered by WordPress, you should download and install the Yoast SEO plugin. While there are dozens of SEO plugins available for WordPress, Yoast is the undisputed leader. It’s a Swiss Army knife of SEO plugins, including features like XML sitemap creation, canonical URL creation, title and meta tag customization, keyword targeting and more.

#3) AdWords Keyword Planner

Keyword research is a fundamental step of any successful SEO strategy. If you target the wrong keywords, you won’t achieve a top search ranking. The good news is that you don’t have to pay for an expensive keyword research tool. Google offers a free tool under its AdWords interface. Known as the AdWords Keyword Planner tool, you can use it to find keyword search volume, competition ad costs and more. With that said, you’ll need an AdWords account to access it. You don’t have to necessarily purchase AdWords ads to use the Keyword Planner tool, but you’ll need an active AdWords account nonetheless.

Not to be confused with Google Analytics, the Google Search Console is an essential tool that can help you rank in Google’s search results. While Google Analytics provides insight into your site’s traffic and how visitors use it, the Search Console focuses specifically on your site’s visibility in Google. You can use it to analyze your site’s search rankings, backlinks, search clicks and more. Furthermore, if Google has penalized your site for violating the Webmaster Guidelines, it will notify you via the Search Console messaging system. For these reasons, you should always add any new sites you create to your Search Console account.

#5) Social Media Management Software

Finally, consider using social media management software. By growing your presence on social networks like Facebook and Twitter, you can drive more traffic to your website and, in turn, increase your site’s search rankings. Hootsuite is a leading social media management app that allows you to create your social media posts in advance. It also has a list function where you can create lists of influencers on social media whom you follow.

These are just a few tools that can assist in your SEO strategy. Keep in mind that even with these tools, you’ll still need to focus on creating content and building backlinks. Without these two elements, your site won’t rank high in the search results, regardless of which tools you use.”
