Move over, PC – the tablet and smartphone are quickly taking the place of the desktop computer. That means that the functionality of these mobile devices is growing exponentially, because users need access to all the information they need to be able to work anywhere, anytime.

That’s why a plethora of apps have popped up for both the iPhone’s iOS and the Android OS. We covered the best mobile SEO apps for the iPhone and other Apple products in a previous blog entry – but if you’re an Android user, how do you know which apps are best for you?

It may take some trial and error, and it’s very likely that you’ll want a combination of mobile SEO apps to give you all the functionality you need. Take a look at the list below for a taste of what’s available. The following mobile SEO apps are considered some of the best – and many of them are either free or extremely affordable.

SEO SiteRank and SEO SiteRank Lite: This app allows you to view the Alexa Rank and Google PageRank for any website while you’re viewing that site in your browser. That’s helpful, because it means you don’t have to exit your browser and interrupt your search session in order to get the SEO information you need. This app comes in both a paid version and a free version (SiteRank Lite).

SEO Keyword Checker: This app is free, but very helpful. It analyzes a webpage and gives you good basic information about that page’s keyword use and keyword density.

SECockpit: Need to do a little keyword research sometimes when you’re away from the office? This app provides a convenient, fast and easy way to search for a keyword phrase and find out the competition and search volume for that keyword or phrase.

Webrank SEO: A free app, Webrank SEO displays the Google PageRank, Alexa Rank and Compete rank for any site you choose – as well as the number of backlinks and indexed pages that show up for that site in multiple search engines. You can also use this app to detect potential penalties against your website.

SEMTab SEO Pro: This is a paid app, but if you do a lot of social media work, you might find it well worth its $1.99 price tag. SEMTab SEO Pro is a “social listening” app that helps you track your site’s social sharing activity on Twitter, Facebook and Delicious.

mAnalytics (Google Analytics Mobile for Android): This SEO mobile app is available for both iPhones/iPads and Android devices, but for Androids the app is known as “mAnalytics.” It brings your existing Google Analytics account information over to your mobile phone or other Android device and helpfully displays your accounts and subaccounts in one list. You can use this app to check stats such as total page views, time on site, and other metrics, and to compare metrics from different time frames. As a free app that logs you in automatically, mAnalytics is a very popular mobile app for SEO.

These are just a few of the many Android mobile apps for performing SEO or checking website stats – but they’re a great place to start, and can give you what you need to do a little SEO when you’re on the go.
