“Your SEO is an important part of your site’s success, as improving it can result in large boosts to your organic traffic numbers. While SEO is a complicated subject, there are a few simple tips, tricks, and tools that can make it much easier to handle.

Using Yoast to Improve SEO

Yoast is one of the most popular SEO plugins, and it’s available on WordPress. When you use it, you enter your target keywords for each post and it checks to see if you have those keywords in the right places, including the first paragraph of the post and its subheadings. It will also rate your content on its readability, which can affect your search engine rankings.

Focusing on Long-Tail Keywords

Keyword research is essential for SEO. You need to target the right keywords to be successful, and the right keywords will be those that are relevant to your site and where you’re able to rank in the top ten in the search results.

The best way to do this is to find long-tail keywords, which are more specific keyword strings that have lower search volumes. For example, instead of choosing “wood tables” as your target keyword, you could choose “accent piece wood tables,” or “accent piece wood tables under $50,” which are both much more specific keywords that will have lower competition. This is better for your site because you can create a page that ranks high in the search results more easily and your search traffic will be looking for exactly what you offer.

Building Backlinks

There are quite a few techniques out there to build your backlinks. One which has been around for years and works well is the skyscraper technique. This is where you find content online with a large number of backlinks and then create a similar but clearly superior post. If it’s a list article, this could be as simple as making a longer list. If the content you find is “5 Ways to Get Your Child Ready for Elementary School,” you could write a list with 10 ways.

You then contact the owners of the sites that are currently backlinking to that content explaining how you have a more thorough article. This technique gets its name from the idea that no one cares what the second-tallest skyscraper in the world is – people only care about the tallest, just like people only care about the best piece of content. Not every site owner will swap out the previous content for yours, but some will.

Check the Performance of Your Content

Regularly check the analytics for your site to see which posts are bringing the most traffic and which are underperforming. Keywords wax and wane in popularity, so keywords that were popular when you first published a post may not be getting much search volume anymore.

Once you’ve seen which content isn’t bringing you much traffic, it’s time to figure out what you can do with it. You may just need to find better keywords and rewrite some of it, or it could be better to add that content into another post. That way, you have one long, high-quality post instead of two mediocre posts.

Final Thoughts

When it comes to SEO, it’s best to take things one or two steps at a time so you don’t overwhelm yourself. You can start by installing Yoast and working on your keyword research. Once you’ve gotten the hang of that, choose a technique to start building those backlinks and check how your previously published content is performing.”
