The content on your website is one of the most important factors in your entire SEO strategy. If you do not have good content, then you are not going to be able to move your website up in the Google search results. But how do you write good content that Google will appreciate? The rules for SEO content have changed and every website owner needs to be familiar with those changes if they want to maximize their website exposure.

Use The Right Platform

If you are building your website from the ground up, then it is important to make sure you use clean coding and employ good SEO tactics. But according to Business2Community.com, you can get even better website results if you use WordPress or some other established website platform.

For example, WordPress is a website platform that is easy to customize and is already packed with SEO tools. You can also add more SEO tools to create content that is maximized for attracting the best search engine results. When you choose the right platform for your website, you will be able to get off to the right start with your SEO.

Write Longer Content

A very good infographic from SocialMediaToday.com reminds us that the top websites in the Google search results have content that is an average of 2,000 words per article. This flies in the face of the notion that users are only looking for content that is 400 to 500 words long and should change the way website owners look at content.

Google has changed to preferring in-depth content that offers significant value for readers and a lot of information. While content developers should still write their content in short and easy to scan paragraphs, the overall length of each article should be longer than web owners may be used to.

Use An Easy To Read Format

Internet users love content that has bullet points and subheadings to help break up the content. It also helps if you can find a way to format your content into some kind of list, but avoid using common list numbers such as five or ten. For example, an article about the top six places to visit in San Francisco would attract a lot of attention and bring in consistent web traffic.

Always Check For Errors

Years ago, finding mistakes in Internet content was considered part of the deal. When people wanted to read something online, they had to put up with spelling errors, bad grammar, and impossible sentence structures.

But with the new Google algorithms, bad content is content that Google does not want people to see. Before you post any content to your website or blog, always go through your content to check for errors. It would help if you could find someone who could proofread the content for you to give it a second set of eyes that will find errors that you miss.

Always Be Original

Google has developed a new criteria for what it is calling “Google Penalties” and the end result of getting a penalty is that your website could disappear from Google results for a very, very long time. At the top of the criteria for getting a “Google Penalty” is using other people’s content.

All of the content on your website needs to be original. A good gauge to use is to invest in Copyscape software and run every piece through that software before you post it. If you are posting stolen content, then you will pay the price and the price is extremely steep.

Writing good SEO content can be fun if you know what you are doing. Spend the time to get familiar with the rules for SEO content and you will find that attracting people to your website by offering excellent content is not only easy, but it can become a full-time job.
