It has never been more important for businesses to establish an online presence, and one of the most important elements associated with creating an online presence is ensuring that the site has a high level of SEO functionality. This fact becomes even more prevalent for eCommerce sites. It does not matter whether an individual is looking to build an eCommerce business from the ground up, or if they already have a site that they are looking to migrate to another platform, it will be paramount that the new platform is equipped with high SEO functionality

Why is SEO so important for an online business? While a significant amount of site traffic will be generated through paid advertising and promotions, as well as repeat buyers, organic traffic can be the difference between having an eCommerce business that is surviving and one that is thriving. According to a recent study, nearly 50 percent all online purchases are initiated with an online search through a major search engine like Google. The results from these searches will reveal the companies that the search engine has deemed relevant to the keywords used to initiate the search. It is the use of SEO strategies that provide the page rankings that allow certain companies to show up on the top of the first page of searches

1. Magneto

Magento is a very comprehensive eCommerce platform that provides the capacity for online entrepreneurs to run the gamut of SEO strategies, techniques and performance. On this platform, the site owner will be able to use SEO techniques that include ALT tags, H1 headings, independent page titles and URL’s and more. This platform is equipped with all of the necessary tools to get the site ranked among the top sites in its specific niche market.

2. Shopify

Shopify is one of the most popular eCommerce platforms, and with good reason. The only reason that Shopify comes in behind Magento is due to the fact that it does not allow the users to use their own IP address. This is important because other users sharing the same IP address can impact the performance of the site. Other than the issue with the IP address, Shopify is an exceptional SEO-friendly platform.

3. WooCommerce

While WooCommerce does not have the brand recognition of Shopify and Magento, it is still an immensely brilliant platform that has remarkable SEO functionality, allowing users to manage how their online retail store appears in the SERPs. It offers everything that is offered with Shopify and also has WordPress functionality, which means that is supports the blogging element that is so important in the customer engagement and branding process.

4. Bigcommerce

Bigcommerce is a solid platform; however, the area in which it falls behind the others is its lack of standard H1 header capacity. The platform does have H1 capacity; however, it is only functional as a custom feature, instead of being standardized. Another issue that could be problematic for some online merchants is the fact that this platform does not have the capacity for merchants to use their own IP address. Otherwise, this platform offers a plethora of SEO options.

5. SquareSpace

The SquareSpace features are similar to those of Bigcommerce, with the only significant difference being that it does not offer the option of H1 headers, which can impact search page result rankings; however, there are other SEO strategies and techniques that can be used to overcome this weakness.

There is a significant number of factors that a merchant must consider when it comes to finding the right eCommerce platform for their particular online retail store. The aforementioned platforms offer the greatest capacity to facilitate the functionality that will be necessary to create the best SEO strategy.
