As a small business, you need all of the help you can get when it comes to marketing. A website is a great start, but offering a web address isn’t enough. You need to focus on SEO, content marketing, PPC campaigns, and more. Following some tips will help you to gain traction and get more traffic to your website.

Use Short Tail and Long Tail Keywords

The keywords you use for SEO needs to be varied. Throughout your content, including headers, tags, and meta descriptions, you need to use short tail and long tail keywords. This means that your keywords have to vary in length. Some will be two or three words long while others might be five or six words long.

Consider what people are going to enter into a search engine. Some are going to enter a few words and others are going to ask full questions. Keep this in mind as you begin to target a specific list of keywords.

Create Backlinks

Backlinks are an important part of the SEO algorithm used by search engines. These help to show authority because the links are found on another website and point back to one of your pages. These are created by joining directories, becoming a guest blogger for major sites, and more.

Utilize Whitespace

No one wants to land on a page and be bombarded by so much text that they are overwhelmed by what you’re trying to say. Use whitespace throughout your website content so it makes it easier for people to scan and read the key points. You should use headers and bullet points as well so people can find what they need in order to decide if they want to give you their business.

Create Calls to Action

At least one call to action should be found on every landing page. These ask people to take specific action, such as “”Sign up”” or “”Click here.””

Focus on Quality Content

Search engines look at quality now, which means you have to be grammatically correct and offer something different than what the other websites offer. When you have quality content, it helps you to rank higher in the search engine result pages.

Know Your Demographic

Know who your demographic is so your content speaks to them. This includes knowing their gender, age range, geographic location, and income level. If you have multiple audiences, consider creating multiple landing pages.

Answer Questions Before They’re Asked

People want to know you are an expert within the industry. This means you need to familiarize yourself with the pain points of your customers and answer questions in your content before people have a chance to ask.

Establish a Unique Value Proposition

A unique value proposition is what sets you apart from the competition. Be sure you identify this clearly in your content so people know why they should be doing business with you instead of any of the other companies out there.

Utilize PPC Campaigns

PPC, otherwise known as pay-per-click, is a way to get ads in front of people who could become potential customers. You pay a website for every click that someone makes to go to your site. You supply them with an ad and a landing page link.

Don’t Forget About Social Media

Facebook and Twitter are great tools to help you with customer engagement. Create profiles and be sure to keep your pages active with comments, questions, surveys, and other posts. The content will also help to drive more people to your website because they will be intrigued by what you post.

Integrating these tips into your marketing strategy will help you in a variety of ways. Once you get the traffic (and hopefully new leads), it is then up to you to convert them into new customers.
